For Interested Businesses and Organizations

If a company or organization is facing a workforce shortage, an intern may be a great opportunity to recruit high quality talent at a competitive cost. Windham County colleges are attracting highly skilled individuals from across the country, and yet most students are unaware of locally available employment opportunities, forcing them to leave the State, bringing their skills and expertise with them. The BDCC Internship Coordinator works closely with an organizations Human Resources team to create an internship opportunity that benefits both the student and the employer, and interacts with most applicants to ensure the hiring process is as seamless and efficient as possible.

Interns will have the opportunity to gain “hands on”, real-world experience in a business, while businesses will benefit from the skills and insight of a student. In many cases students can earn both a salary and college credit while participating in the internship program. Businesses who are participating in the program are welcoming and enthusiastic about providing an opportunity for college students in their workplace. They will be invested in providing a meaningful and educational experience for the interns they hire.

The following Windham Region industry sectors have been participating in the BDCC Internship Program:

  • Agriculture and Forestry
  • Education
  • General Business
  • Healthcare
  • Hospitality/Tourism
  • Manufacturing
  • Marketing and Media
  • Social Services/Nonprofits

Employer Testimonials

“Our tax preparation firm hosted an intern through the BDCC program in the fall of 2019.  Sarah reached out to us with an intern in mind, we met Mark and found he was a good fit for our team.  We knew going into it that the purpose of the program was to supplement Mark’s education and not to provide the firm with low cost labor.  With Sarah’s support, the experience has been great.  Mark seemed to value learning about the work we do and relating it to his education.   He is now better informed about whether or not he wants to do this kind of work.  We learned about what it would be like to hire and train a new employee.  We will certainly keep Mark in mind should we need to hire in the future.”

“I was very pleased with the service I received from Sarah at BDCC. Sarah and I met in 2018 at Mount Snow and I mentioned to her that we are always in need of help for our summer weddings. She reached out to me in June and let me know that she had a student that was interested in a Wedding Assistant position we had open, and we were very excited as we had not yet hired anyone. I did an interview with Alexis and knew immediately she would be perfect for the job. She started the next week and “hit the ground running.” She was punctual, hard working, had great ideas, and was amazing with our brides, grooms, and guests! We will definitely reach out to BDCC in the future for any internship opportunities.”
