Christy is a seventh generation Vermonter and a graduate of the former Whitingham (now Twin Valley) High School. She currently serves on the Twin Valley School Board and the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union Executive Board. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Theatre Arts from The University of Vermont and a Master’s Degree in Theatre Education from Emerson College.
Christy leads the Pipelines and Pathways Program (P3) at BDCC, a workforce development program dedicated to connecting all students in Windham County high schools with career awareness and preparedness opportunities. P3’s goal is to ensure that every senior graduates with a solid plan for success, whether college or workforce-bound.
Prior to her work at BDCC, Christy spent a decade leading a team of educators at BEST Hospitality, the training division of Local 26, The Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union in Boston, MA. BEST’s mission is to prepare and place new Americans and low-to-no income residents in high paying jobs with career lattices and a path to the middle class. While there, she authored and implemented curricula that provided graduates of her program with credit toward degrees in Hospitality Management from Bunker Hill Community College.
She has an extensive background working as an educator in public schools and nonprofits throughout New England, most notably as a middle school special education teacher at Whitingham School and as a lead teaching artist at Boston University’s Wheelock Family Theatre. She designed and implemented 21st Century soft skills training for a number of organizations including: Legal Sea Foods Restaurant Corporation, The Massachusetts Arts Council, in conjunction with The Massachusetts Disability Law Center; Sparkshare Boston; Strive Boston Employment Services; and The Bridges to Hospitality Program, sponsored by (former) Mayor Martin J. Walsh.
She is an amateur photographer and short story blogger. She loves live music and theatre, traveling, gardening, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends on Harriman Reservoir and at Narragansett Beach. She lives with her seven year old cat, Scout, her 49 year old turtle, Luo Luo, and her partner, Troy.
