Every state talks about their “quality of life,” but Vermont wrote the book on quality of life and here in Southern Vermont, we did the editing!  Vermont continually ranks within the top ten healthiest, smartest, safest, and “greenest” states in the United States (see these:  Healthiest states, Smartest statesSafest statesGreenest states).  Southern Vermont has all that as well as access to urban amenities in Boston and New York and small community living with good schools, recreation, high speed broadband access, and all that you know and love about Vermont.  Come home to Vermont!

Situated in the southeastern corner of the state, Brattleboro is the largest town in Windham County and serves as an artistic and economic anchor for the region. In 2023, Brattleboro was named “Strongest Town” in the U.S. by StrongTowns.org. Brattleboro is as much a tight-knit, small town, community-driven vibe as it is an arts and cultural epicenter with a robust milling history and manufacturing background. Brattleboro boasts all this without sacrificing proximity to major cities such as Boston and New York, both within a few hours drive.

For relatively small town of 12,000, Brattleboro features satellite campuses of the Community College of Vermont as well as the nursing program of Vermont State University. Local employers in every sector from gourmet food manufacturing in Against the Grain Gourmet, to highly specialized manufacturing in G.S. Precision, to the cutting edge of healthcare in The Brattleboro Retreat and Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, help paint the picture of Brattleboro’s diverse economy.

Amtrak offers Brattleboro stops aboard the Vermonter, a train line that makes daily stops in New York City and Washington, D.C.. The Moover, the region’s transportation service, offers fare-free transportation via bus throughout town and region.

Brattleboro and the Southeast Vermont region has outdoor recreation at every turn, every season. Fort Dummer State Park sits on 217 acres of public land open to hiking, biking, camping, swimming, as well as historical visits to the Revolutionary fort itself.  The Green Mountain Forest adds nearly 400,000 protected acres of natural beauty and outdoor recreation to the surrounding region. In the winter, Brattleboro is famous for its annual Harris Hill Skill Jump that attracts athletics alike from all over the country and globe. The region is also home to Mount Snow, Stratton, and Magic Mountain ski resorts, all of which are an hour or less away.
