Why Manufacturing’s Future in Windham County Depends on Working Together

On Thursday, October 8, as the National Manufacturing Month kicked off, BDCC convened manufacturers, educators, and state officials at the BDCC Business Park for the CEO Roundtable “Why Manufacturing Powers Windham Region’s Growth,” as part of the Windham Leadership Series.

The session was designed to bring together the stakeholders in the region’s manufacturing workforce and to identify what it will take to retain and grow manufacturing jobs in Windham County.  Participants toured three local facilities – Fulflex, Against the Grain, and Prince Industries – then convened to enjoy a training demonstration by a student from the manufacturing program at the Windham Regional Career Center and their instructor Rich Thompson.

The tours and demonstration were followed by a working session with state officials including Secretary Tayt Brooks of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, Commissioner Kendal Smith from the Vermont Department of Labor, Commissioner Lyle Jepson from the Department of Economic Development, and Tamara Eklof of the Agency of Education. Education partners from the region including the Community College of Vermont, Vermont State University, Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center, and BDCC workforce program leaders.
