BDCC’s Southern VT Economy Project Sponsors Ongoing Series
Southern VT: The Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation’s Southern VT Economy Project (SVEP), invites Southern Vermont’s municipal leaders (both elected and appointed, as well as Town staff) to attend a workshop entitled “Economic Development (For Every Town)” on Tuesday, December 2 from 9:00am-12:30pm.
This is the second event in the 2025/2026 Municipal Leaders Network, an ongoing series designed to connect local municipal employees, elected officials, and volunteers with expert resources and peer networking. The event will take place at the Old School Community Center at 1 School Street in Wilmington, VT, and is free of charge.
This event is designed to help municipal leaders think through what economic development means for a Southern Vermont town – even one that does not have a village center with a business district. We’ll discuss the role for municipal governments (of all sizes) in supporting grand list growth. Breakout sessions will allow participants to take a deep dive into several topics, including: planning for the future and establishing a road map to get there; looking at ways to support private investment through local programs (like Revolving Loan Funds, tax abatement policies, and facade grant programs); and understanding available State programs that can help towns support grand list growth, including the new CHIP program.
Presenters include Bill Colvin, Executive Director of BCRC and Adam Grinold, Executive Director of BDCC, as well as Jessica Hartleben, Executive Director of VEPC, which has worked to create rules and processes for the Community and Housing Infrastructure Program (CHIP). They’ll be joined by other regional economic development professionals who can share resources and best practices for towns of all sizes.
