Press Release: Strengthening and Building Southern VT Municipal Leaders: Building Community through (Better) Public Engagement Workshop

BDCC’s Southern VT Economy Project Sponsors Ongoing Series

Southern VT: The Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation’s Southern VT Economy Project (SVEP), invites Southern Vermont’s municipal leaders (both elected and appointed, as well as Town staff) to attend a workshop entitled “Building Community Through (Better) Public Engagement” on Thursday, June 11 from 1-4 pm.

This is the third event in the 2025/2026 Municipal Leaders Network, an ongoing series designed to connect local municipal employees, elected officials, and volunteers with expert resources and peer networking. The event will take place at the Townshend Town Hall (2006 Rte. 30), and is free of charge.

This event is centered around the following question: “In the face of changes that are often beyond local control, and in a time of increased political division, how can Southern Vermont’s municipal leaders help their community have conversations that find common ground, build unity, and provide a clear(er) direction forward for decision makers?”

Presenter/facilitators Richard Amore and Meg Mott, long-time practitioners of community development and community conversations, will be joined by leaders from Guilford and Putney to engage in an honest conversation about what local leaders can do to foster constructive dialog.  The panel will share recent examples (from inside Vermont and beyond) of how community engagement has set a direction for policy or projects. Workshop participants are encouraged to come with their successes and struggles around public engagement to discuss in breakout sessions.
