Local Solutions for Local Housing Needs: Registration is Open for December 1st Workshop

Town officials and volunteers interested in increasing housing choice and availability in their communities are invited to register for a workshop: “Local Solutions for Local Housing Needs.” The event will take place in person on Thursday, December 1 at the Old School Community Center in Wilmington, VT from 9:30 am- 3 pm. The event is part of the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation’s Southern Vermont Economy Project, which serves communities across Bennington and Windham Counties. Registration is now open at https://brattleborodevelopment.com/svep/

Designed to complement State-wide housing conferences, sessions will have a distinctly local focus with local Planning Commission, Select Board, and Housing Committee volunteers in mind.

Panelists include representatives from Vermont Housing Finance Agency sharing their invaluable ‘housing ready toolbox,’ and a host of community leaders and volunteers who have been working on housing solutions in their communities.

Participants should leave this workshop with a grasp of the ‘big picture’ of Southern Vermont’s housing needs, as well as ideas that they can implement immediately in their town.

The workshop will include a short walk around the village center in Wilmington to look at housing types common to many Vermont towns and discuss how those fit in with current zoning regulations (or not). Dress for the weather!

For more information and to register for the event, visit: https://brattleborodevelopment.com/svep/. The registration fee of $30 includes coffee and local pastries at registration, as well as lunch. Scholarships are available on request for anyone for whom the fee represents an obstacle to attendance. For any questions about the event, or for information about the Southern Vermont Economy Project, contact Meg Staloff at (802) 257-7731 xt 222 or mstaloff@brattleborodevelopment.com.
