Reblog: Through business program at career center, Teacher of the Year shows students ‘what’s possible’

BRATTLEBORO — When the Vermont Teacher of the Year gets juniors in her business and entrepreneurship class at the Windham Regional Career Center, she seeks to show them what options are available to them as young people. 

“I just try to really lead them through the process of seeing what’s possible,” Linda Alvarez said in an interview Tuesday morning at Brattleboro Union High School after receiving the award from the Vermont Agency of Education. “And through that, they usually find that they really like business, too.”

Many of her students sign up for her class without having a clear path for the future. After two years in the class, Alvarez said, “they really have a passion for business as well and they go on to college.”
