Under its recent strategic reorganization, Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) has established two dedicated entities to strengthen and streamline regional economic and community development efforts. The new entities, Brattleboro Development Community Corporation (Community Corp) and the Rural Investment Center (RIC), were intentionally created to focus on distinct areas of BDCC’s work: delivering targeted Regional Development Corporation (RDC) services and expanding access-to-capital programs, respectively. Through formalized service agreements, both Community Corp and RIC benefit from BDCC’s established operational infrastructure, administrative expertise, staffing support, and industry relationships. This realignment allows each new entity to enhance its specialized impact, improve operational clarity, manage resources more effectively, and respond more swiftly to emerging opportunities and needs, ultimately amplifying their collective contributions to Southern Vermont’s economic growth and community resilience.
Community Corp is a nonprofit economic development entity specifically created through a strategic reorganization process led by BDCC. This reorganization aimed to streamline operations, enhance sustainability, and clearly delineate roles within BDCC’s broader enterprise structure. As a result, Community Corp now exclusively houses the Regional Development Corporation (RDC) functions, focused on promoting industrial and commercial growth across Windham County and nearby communities.
To ensure efficient execution and continuity of service delivery, BDCC provides staffing, operational support, and management resources to Community Corp under a formal service agreement. This agreement allows Community Corp to leverage BDCC’s established expertise and administrative capabilities, enabling seamless fulfillment of RDC responsibilities such as comprehensive business support, workforce training programs, access to capital, grant management, and infrastructure development initiatives.
The collaborative structure between Community Corp and BDCC ensures a robust approach to regional economic development, strategically positioning Southern Vermont for sustained economic resilience and growth. This model strengthens organizational accountability and transparency, clearly aligning resources and expertise to effectively meet the economic needs and opportunities of the region.
