BDCC, in partnership with the Vermont Small Business Law Center, will host two educational workshops designed to help small business owners understand legal issues that commonly arise in day-to-day operations. Participants will learn directly from attorneys experienced in working with small businesses.

Workshop 1. Business Contracts 101: Understanding Common Agreements

Thursday, April 23, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This session will cover foundational contract concepts and terms, key risk considerations, and practical guidance for small businesses looking at common contracts such as customer/job terms and conditions, MOUs, leases, or sales agreements. Following a one-hour presentation, participants may sign up for a 15-minute breakout session for more specific questions in small groups or one-on-one. Participants are welcome to bring their own contracts that they are contemplating, with the understanding that education and information will be offered, and not legal advice relating to specific documents.

Requesting a 15-minute breakout session:
Participants interested in the 15-minute breakout consultation during the second hour of the session must email Danielle Delaini at BDCC in advance. To request a slot, email ddelaini@brattleborodevelopment.com with:

  • The subject line: “Contracts Workshop Breakout Request – April 23rd”
  • A draft of the contract or agreement you would like discussed
  • Your name and business name

Breakout sessions are limited and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Workshop 2. Understanding How to Collect Unpaid Debts as a Small Business

Thursday, May 14, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This session will focus on how small businesses can exercise prevention strategies to avoid conflicts when collecting on receivables, as well as available options to collect, such as demand letters, mediation, negotiation, and small claims.

Both workshops are offered free of charge as part of BDCC’s ongoing business technical assistance programming and partnership with regional resource providers.
