Bootcamp Group Summer 2021

Summer Career Bootcamp for Local High School Students

Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) will be hosting a Youth Career Bootcamp this summer for high school students from July 8 – July 12, 2024 at the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro.

BDCC ran a similar Bootcamp in the Summer of 2021. “To be honest, my mom wanted me to do this,” said one student, who at the time was entering their senior year and poised to graduate early. “But now I wish it could keep going!” Another student, who was interested in a career in engineering, carpentry, or mechanics said, “I was a little skeptical about what it (the program) would be. But I quickly realized I was learning a lot of valuable information.”

The Bootcamp is designed for rising juniors, seniors, and recent graduates that are unsure of their next step beyond high school and want to learn more about career pathways right in their backyard. The Bootcamp will feature employer panels, job site visits, and soft skills workshops. Students will learn how to explore career pathways through jobs, training and educational opportunities. Students may opt to receive support applying to local jobs and internships as well.

The trainings are led by Christy Betit, BDCC’s Pipelines and Pathways Program Manager, who works year-round in Windham County schools providing career education trainings and experiences.

About WFCoE

The Workforce Center of Excellence (WFCoE) is a workforce and career training and education initiative that supports youth, adults, New Americans, and women in taking their next step in a career pathway. Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) provides one-to-one assistance, supportive services and career readiness training. The WFCoE leverages BDCC’s relationships with employers and regional workforce development partners, supporting both sides of the labor exchange to connect people with opportunity, and employers with the talent they need. The WFCoE is funded by a Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) grant from the Northern Borders Regional Commission and US Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA).

About Pipelines & Pathways

BDCC’s Pipelines and Pathways Program (P3) provides career education within the five southeastern Vermont public high schools. P3 helps students develop their personalized learning plans (PLP) through learning experiences to develop knowledge about career opportunities, and achieve their goals after graduation. Students develop soft skills, financial literacy, knowledge about economic sectors and skills in-demand through hands-on activities, work-based learning, and mentorships. Pipelines & Pathways is a BDCC Workforce Center of Excellence program based on SeVEDS strategies to increase the size and quality of the region’s workforce.
