What does it mean to be ready for the future? At the Fearless Futures Fairs, featuring postsecondary pathways available to students including direct-to-work, college, credentials and certificates programs, apprenticeships, entrepreneurship, gap years and more, it means showing up with curiosity, confidence, and the courage to explore all the possibilities life has to offer after high school.
Fearless Futures, held at Twin Valley Middle/High School and Bellows Falls Union High School brings together career readiness, college planning, and life skills development into one interactive day tailored for middle and high school students. With a focus on engagement and empowerment, students don’t just collect pamphlets—they participate, practice, and prepare.
The fair is designed to meet students where they are—whether they’re just beginning to think about life after graduation or already mapping out their next steps. Over 50 college representatives, career professionals, and local mentors were on hand to guide conversations, answer questions, and offer a glimpse into a wide range of future paths.
But the heart of Fearless Futures lies in its interactive learning stations, where students build real-world readiness skills they can use right away. At the career readiness tables, students step into scenarios that simulate real-life experiences, with stations dedicated to:
Whether a student is bound for college, the workforce, a trade, or a gap year, Fearless Futures ensures they’re better equipped to navigate next steps with purpose and clarity.
BDCC’s Pipelines and Pathways Program (P3) provides career education within the four southeastern Vermont public high schools and the Windham Regional Career Center. P3 helps students develop their personalized learning plans (PLP) by providing work-based learning experiences that increase their knowledge of career opportunities and achieve their postsecondary goals. Students develop soft skills, financial literacy, knowledge about economic sectors and skills that are in-demand through hands-on informational interviews, work-based learning, and mentorships. Pipelines & Pathways is a BDCC Workforce Center of Excellence program based on SeVEDS strategies to increase the size and quality of the region’s workforce. P3 was originally launched as a five year pilot, thanks to historic investment from the Vermont Community Foundation and McClure Foundation, the Vermont Training Program, WCEDP Vermont Yankee closure funds, and municipal contributions to SeVEDS. In 2023, at the end of that pilot phase, P3 reached a major program milestone by commitments from the private sector. M&T Bank, whose support was matched by local employers G.S. Precision and C&S Wholesale Grocers joins funding partners McClure Foundation, the George W. Mergens Foundation, the Windham Regional Career Center, the West River Education District, and the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union, in supporting P3 across southeastern Vermont. Portions of the program also receive support through the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) program of the Northern Border Regional Commission.
