TVHS and WRCC Graduate, Winter Nakos, Awarded The Watson Deerfield Valley Fund Scholarship

Each year, P3 collaborates with the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation to identify outstanding students to receive The Watson Family Deerfield Valley Fund at The Curtis Fund.  The Curtis Fund, a supporting organization of the Vermont Community Foundation, was established more than 110 years ago with the mission of providing educational scholarships to Vermont students pursuing a postsecondary education, aiming to level the playing field so that every Vermont has a chance to obtain the education he or she needs, regardless of family background, income level, or birthplace. The scholarships support students pursuing a two- or four-year degree or a certificate program.

This year’s Watson Family Deerfield Valley Fund recipient is Twin Valley High School and Windham Regional Career Center Student, Winter Nakos. Winter will attend The University of Vermont this fall to pursue her bachelor’s degree. She is pictured at right, serving on the P3 Education Panel at the Southern Vermont Economy Summit. Scholarships for certificate programs are still available for the 2023-24 academic year. These programs include licensed practical nursing, advanced manufacturing, computer coding, early childhood education and much more. To learn more about eligibility please contact Christy Betit at cbetit@brattleborodevelopment.com.

Special thanks to Shana Trombley of The Curtis Fund for her unwavering commitment to connect Windham County students with opportunity and ensuring that all Vermont students have the chance to build fulfilling and successful lives after high school. Thanks to Holly Hammond Educational Counselor at VSAC and Anne Doran, Guidance Counselor at the Windham Regional Career Center, for helping students navigate the application process, and for their steadfast support and collaboration.
