WRCC Biz Classes Always Clutch Performers for P3
WRCC Business and Entrepreneurship Instructor, Linda Alvarez, is always innovating. She runs an engaging classroom with her students who clearly adore her and enjoy studying the content she creates. What’s more, her students are always showing up to support P3.
For the second year in a row, Business Level II students served as Financial Advisors at the Reality Fair put on by BDCC’s Pipelines and Pathways Program in partnership with Leland and Grey. The students reviewed budget ledgers, helping their fellow students from all Windham County schools make good choices and balance their needs (housing, transportation) with their wants (pets, vacations, and concert tickets).
Currently, Linda’s WRCC Marketing class is working to create logos and other branding materials for P3-sponsored events including The Reality Fair, Fearless Futures Fairs, Career Boot Camps, and a yet-to-be-named STEAM event that’s in the planning for next year at Brattleboro Union High School. The WRCC marketing team met with P3 representatives before the holidays to gather information on each event in order to begin development of materials following the winter break.
We’re looking forward to seeing the variety of logos and ideas they bring to the table. The WRCC Marketing Team will invoice P3’s organization, Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, once logos have been chosen. This is the Marketing Team’s first paying gig! How cool is that?! We can’t wait to see the results!
About Pipelines & Pathways
BDCC’s Pipelines and Pathways Program (P3) provides career education within the five southeastern Vermont public high schools. P3 helps students develop their personalized learning plans (PLP) through learning experiences to develop knowledge about career opportunities, and achieve their goals after graduation. Students develop soft skills, financial literacy, knowledge about economic sectors and skills in-demand through hands-on activities, work-based learning, and mentorships. Pipelines & Pathways is a BDCC Workforce Center of Excellence program based on SeVEDS strategies to increase the size and quality of the region’s workforce. P3 was launched as a five year pilot, thanks to historic investment from the Vermont Community Foundation and McClure Foundation, the Vermont Training Program, WCEDP Vermont Yankee closure funds, and municipal contributions to SeVEDS. In 2023 P3 reached a major program milestone by commitments from the private sector. M&T Bank, whose support was matched by local employers G.S. Precision and C&S Wholesale Grocers joins funding partners McClure Foundation, the George W. Mergens Foundation, the Windham Regional Career Center and the West River Education District in supporting P3 across southeastern Vermont.
