New Childhood Education Center Opens in Putney
The Pumpkin Patch opened its doors on September 1 2023. Founder Katy Eamond developed the center to alleviate the state’s childcare crisis. Vermont’s childcare crisis is making Vermont nearly impossible for working families to afford to live in our state. The average cost of childcare for a family is over $26,000 per year. There is a lack of available full-year slots in childcare programs, parents and caregivers are struggling to get the childcare they need so they can work to support their families.
Sara McConnell at BDCC worked with Katy on financing the center through an SBA loan with BDCC. Sara supported Katy in developing her business plan and financial systems to smooth the way for the center to open and operate. All BDCC borrowers receive technical assistance.
