Join Jeff Siegler of Revitalize, or Die for a frank and honest conversation about what it takes to make a non-profit organization successful, sustainable, and meaningful. With good intentions in mind, many boards are assembled with the idea that board members will not be asked to do very much. This creates a situation where boards are flawed from the very beginning, and an organization struggles to meet its mission. We’ll discuss how important non-profit organizations and committees are to a community and what should be expected from board members. We’ll work on how to achieve a common understanding of what is needed to achieve the mission and make an impact, so organizations can develop a consensus around board expectations and how to appropriately lead them. Finally, we will discuss accountability measures and how they can be incorporated to ensure expectations are met so that local organizations have clear standards that can be upheld. He is the founder of the civic pride consulting firm, Revitalize, or Die. and a co-founding partner of Proud Places. Having grown up in a struggling rustbelt city Jeff understands the devastating cost of civic apathy and works every day to combat its effects. After obtaining his Masters in Urban Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University, Jeff went to work on Main Street. First as a downtown manager and BID director, and later as the Ohio Main Street State Coordinator. As a consultant, Jeff’s work takes him around the country and internationally to assist cities in their efforts to restore civic health. He believes we have to move beyond economic development and tourism and instead focus on making our cities into places residents can be proud to call home.
