SoVTYPs Food Rescue: Apple Gleaning for VT Foodbank

We may or may not have had to look it up too. Gleaning is the act of collecting excess produce from farm fields that might otherwise go to waste in order to help feed your community. In this SoVTYP volunteer event, you’ll spend an afternoon at Radicle Apple’s beautiful “grow-for-good” apple orchard and help to provide healthy, local food to Vermonters who are at risk of hunger.
The Vermont Foodbank will be with you on the ground, give you an overview of what gleaning is, how what you are doing fits into the local food system, and -most importantly- how to have fun while doing it!
Please Note: You must register as a VT Foodbank volunteer in order to participate in this event. If you are vaccinated, masks are not currently required for volunteering but anyone who feels more comfortable wearing one can absolutely do so! This event is limited to 15 people.
1. Register as a Foodbank volunteer and fill out the volunteer application to create an account with them. Folks should click the “Create New Account” button at the bottom if you’ve never volunteered with the Foodbank before (~5 minutes): https://vtfoodbank.volunteerhub.com/account/signin?returnUrl=%3352f
2. The join code for members to access the event is “SVYPGLEAN”. Anyone who is completing a new volunteer application for the first time should have the option to enter the join code during the application process and anyone who is already approved for volunteering can enter the join code by clicking the “Enter Join Code” option on the dropdown menu under their name (User names are located in the top right corner of the screen, next to the search icon).
3. After you have entered the join code you should have access to register for the event on the 18th and once you register you’ll receive a confirmation email from VT Foodbank so that you know you’ve successfully reserved a spot.
