Leland and Gray’s Emma Dunn Awarded Windham Work Ready Scholarship
BDCC’s Pipelines and Pathways Program collaborates with Leland & Gray High School each semester to bring the Senior Survival course to life, covering topics from punctuality, handshakes, and tie tying, to understanding the importance of flexibility, resilience, and maintaining a professional profile. Every student finishes a series of challenges that include resume and cover letter writing, mock and informational interviews, and a host of other assignments.
Emma Dunn received the Windham Work Ready Scholarship this year. This scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies the accountability, initiative, professionalism, positivity, and resilience necessary to excel in the professional world.
“Emma represents the goal of the partnership between Senior Survival and BDCC. At the beginning of the semester, she was unsure of her plans after graduation. But she took advantage of each lesson we taught in Senior Survival to critically think about her future,” said Leland & Gray’s Multiple Pathways Coordinator, Terry Davison Berger, “and she volunteered to serve on the Southern Vermont Economy Summit education panel representing Leland & Gray. She offered some great insights that helped the audience understand the value of career education.” Emma is pictured at left in a photo of the education panel, next to her Guidance Counselor, Sarah Grasso, and her Senior Survival instructor, Terry.
Emma plans to attend Job Corps in the fall. She will explore and train for a career in auto mechanics.
