Management and Leadership Series

This series will be facilitated by Jennifer Jacobs and Karen Blumberg.

Jennifer, (Human Resource & Management Consultant, EAP Counselor, Workshop Facilitator), owns and manages THRIVEeap. She has lived in Windham County most of her life and has a deep connection to the community. In 2014 she took over the former practice, Consultants for Workplace and Family Health, and transformed it into THRIVEeap. Jennifer very intentionally chose the word “thrive” for the work that the company does. She firmly believes that with the right resources, support, and opportunities, anyone can “flourish, grow, and prosper.” She is committed to helping others do just that, by increasing access to mental health support through Employee Assistance and making places of work the best they can be.

Karen, (Lead Workshop Facilitator, EAP Counselor), is an experienced workshop facilitator and brings great joy and passion to helping individuals and teams learn and grow. She helps identify how Learning & Development can address key needs within an organization and create a comprehensive plan to extend learning beyond a workshop. As a seasoned mental health clinician she also provides knowledgeable and compassionate support to employees when they are experiencing something distressful.

4/11/18 – Workplace Culture: Creating Healthy & Positive Places to Work

Culture is like the air we breath at work. It’s all around us, it affects us, and often we are not too conscious of it. Each person plays an important role in how “clean” or “polluted” it is. What are the norms in your work group? What do you want IN the workplace culture and what do you want OUT of it? This workshop helps participants focus on the specific culture in which they work and what they can do as an individual, and as a leader, to enhance it. We also share practical and helpful strategies that employees in any positions within an organization can use to make it a great place to work.

5/2/18 – Leadership: Nurturing Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose in Everyone

Ensure Managers and Supervisors have the skills they need to be great leaders. We understand it is difficult to set aside time and money to develop these skills. However, an ineffective Manager or Supervisor benefits no one. In fact, this contributes significantly to lower morale, decreased productivity, and increased turn-over. Happily, this can be prevented and remedied! Our Management & Leadership Series covers the essential knowledge and skills for Managers and Supervisors in all types of organizations.

5/23 – Understanding Harassment & Discrimination at Work

Healthy and productive workplaces require a foundation of tolerance and respect for each other. Ideally this would happen naturally, but sometimes there needs to be education about what is both acceptable and legal when it comes to employee interactions. Every employer is required, by law, to provide a work environment that is free from harassment and discrimination…but what does that look like or sound like from day-to-day? This interactive workshop teaches the technical details of laws that protect employees from these actions and also how to help prevent such behavior from happening in the first place. It also teaches employees and employers how to handle harassment and discrimination if/when it occurs.

6/13 – Performance Feedback: The “Secret Sauce” for A Great Place to Work

Do you cringe when you hear the words, “performance feedback?” Are you a “no news is good news” kind of boss? This workshop is for YOU! Because we show how performance feedback can be GREAT (and not dreaded or avoided)! Geared for Supervisors and Managers, we will cover why effective performance feedback is vital to a successful organization AND provide practical strategies for giving employees praise and criticism. Great bosses help employees be great at what they do and guidance is essential. We probably won’t make you love giving an employee criticism, but we WILL give you clear and effective tools to do it…and if you practice regularly, you’ll get less uncomfortable.

6/27 – Mind Your Ps & Qs: Getting Rid of Gossip & Other Negative Behaviors at Work

Most of us are curious about each other, and we like to know what is going on. But when this curiosity turns negative, workplace rumors can be devastating. They are often the source of employee anxiety and tension, lack of productivity, low morale, divisiveness, and an erosion of trust. This workshop teaches employees how to create an environment where team spirit and trust are high and negative behaviors, such as gossip, are low. Participants learn the difference between gossiping and reporting a complaint, how to identify gossip and deal with it effectively, and how to create a workplace that is safe and free of negative talk.
